It was a bit of a shock to wake up on Thursday to a white frost and -5C registered on the thermometer, but Spring is here.
The house martens have returned; the skylarks are in full voice; last year's baby carp are scattering the mass of tadpoles in the pond; the blue-bells are glorious in the woods; everything is greening up; and the hens are laying optimum eggs. The cuckoo has been heard once and some guests have even been 'enjoying' the pool!

The little church, dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch (who was said to have survived being swallowed by a dragon), is about 200 yards from Manor Cottage and the Guest House. It is Norman, built on Saxon foundations, on a supposedly Roman worshiping site. It is Listed Grade I* and is described in Gloucestershire Heritage Guides:-
"It is hard to imagine a more idyllic church than St Margaret's, Bagendon. The location is pure magic, one of the loveliest spots in the Cotswolds."
The Hon Mrs George Bathurst, Manor Cottage, Bagendon, Cirencester, GL7 7DU.
